The address is 3 Elmira Street Lewisham parish of St Stephens

Our family has been sweeping chimneys for over 300 years. Originally from the Bristol area, we finally settled in South East London.

A famous relative was Henry Pearce, nicknamed the Game Chicken. He became a British boxing champion in 1805 and he gained his boxing experience in boxing booths around the country by working as a travelling chimney sweep.

Another relative, Charles W Pearce was also a travelling chimney sweep who settled in South East London around 1802.

My great, great granddad, Alfred Pearce working and lived in Brockley for 54 years as a chimney sweep, a real Victorian sweep. he had seven sons who all became chimney sweeps and at one time there were 35 Pearce chimney sweeps working in South East London and Essex. They also supplied approximately five thousand bags of soot to farmers to be used as fertiliser.

My great grandad was the oldest brother, also named Alfred Pearce. He served in the First World War 1914-1918. He was a sniper before he was shot in the leg and taken as a prisoner of war. He set up his chimney sweeping business in Courthill Road, Ladywell from 1926 and worked with my grandad up to the 1960's.

My grandad Dennis Pearce set up his chimney sweeping business in Forest Hill in 1956 and continued to work there until he retired in 1996.

My father, Stephen Pearce has been sweeping chimneys for 35 years with my grandad still booking our appointments and offering 70 years of expert advice to customers.
